About
Most of Uganda's honey is imported. As businesses, we have the choice to empower local farmers, who live on the brink of survival, to flourish. That’s why we are introducing Kara-Tunga honey. This honey, sourced from small-scale farmers of Karamoja, improves livelihoods and represents cultural preservation. It offers alternative income streams for local farmers, through honey. 4 premium honeys with 4 distinct tastes from 4 different regions in Karamoja. Ofcourse, without any added sugar or water and harvested using natural methods. 100% made by bees from plant nectar, coming directly from the beekeeper. Farmers in Karamoja often produce top-notch honey but lack resources and knowledge to reach the market. We’re trying to bridge this gap by bringing you honey from Timu, Karenga, Morungole, and Kathile. With each different honey, you’re witnessing the story of our people. They depict the challenges we are tackling together in wildlife, deforestation, and agriculture. As a token of gratitude from our community, each jar also comes with beautiful beads to be used as jewelry, made in the region where the honey was harvested. A symbol of thanks for helping to create jobs and brighter futures. KARA-TUNGA At Kara-Tunga, we're pioneers in regenerative tourism in Uganda. Our mission is to preserve biodiversity, empower local communities, and highlight Karamoja's rich heritage. TIMU Timu is located on the East African Rift escapement at an altitude 2,000m. The area is tucked away in the utmost northeastern corner of Uganda. It borders South Sudan on the north and Kenya on the east. Timu is home to the indigenous ik community, one of Uganda's smallest tribes which life close with nature and their traditions. The honey business plays a significant cultural importance in their ceremonies but also in improving their livelihoods.
